Rebecca H. Buckley, MD

Rebecca Buckley has been a professor of pediatrics and a professor of immunology at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. In 1979, she was also named the James Buren Sidbury Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics. Dr Buckley also served as chief of the university’s Division of Allergy and Immunology from 1974 to 2003. She received her medical degree from the University of North Carolina in 1958. Dr Buckley completed her pediatric residency and allergy and immunology training at Duke.

Dr Buckley’s research interests are in the fundamental causes of genetically-determined immunodeficiency diseases. For the past 28 years her research has focused on severe combined immunodeficiency and the outcomes of nonablative T cell–depleted parental bone marrow transplants.

Dr Buckley is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. In 2003, she was elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. In 2006, she received the  William G. Anlyan, MD, Lifetime Achievement Award from the Duke Medical Alumni Association. In 2007, she was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services to a 4-year term on the HRSA Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders of Newborns and Children. Dr Buckley has authored more than 300 publications.
